Fira. This is the biggest and most frequented area of Santorini. In the summer, the narrow alleys and the shops are always bustling with people. Equally famous is the “avenue” of Fira, the so-called “gold street,” because of the many goldsmiths who have set up their shops there, one next to the other. A visit to the Museum of Prehistoric Thera, and also the Archaeological Museum of Thera, should not be missed. Imerovigli. Besides its great beauty, Paros has a long history beginning in the Neolithic Era. Excavations on the isle of Saliago (between Paros and Antiparos) revealed a Late Neolithic settlement. During the Proto-Cycladic period, Paros was home to a great civilization, evidenced by the settlements that were discovered on both islands. Crete’s supremacy in the Aegean Sea prohibited Paros’ development. The Cretans (also known as Minoans), controlled trade and communications among Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians and the Balkan settlements.

Chora, with its plethora of monuments, which attest to its illustrious past. The best-known of these monuments is “Portara” the enormous marble gate of a temple measuring 100 Greek feet, whose building phase began in the 6th century BC; it was possibly dedicated to Apollo, but was never finished. “Portara” stands imposingly on the islet of “Palatia,” on the left side of the port. From here you will enjoy a marvellous sunset.
