Fira. This is the biggest and most frequented area of Santorini. In the summer, the narrow alleys and the shops are always bustling with people. Equally famous is the “avenue” of Fira, the so-called “gold street,” because of the many goldsmiths who have set up their shops there, one next to the other. A visit to the Museum of Prehistoric Thera, and also the Archaeological Museum of Thera, should not be missed. Imerovigli. Also known as the “balcony of Santorini.” The spectacular view, combined with the tranquil atmosphere, create a most romantic environment. Akrotiri. Visit the settlement of Akrotiri and travel back to prehistoric times. The settlement had approximately 30,000 residents, and was privy to double conduits that provided hot and cold water from the warm volcanic springs. The famous murals are still as vibrant as they were during the time of the Minoan eruption. Oia. The white houses hanging on the rock create a spectacular sight. The view of the sunset is magical, attracting many visitors from all over the world, who come here to enjoy and applaud the sun as it disappears into the sea. The Church of Aghia Ekaterina of Oia. The indestructible church. The only large—by island standards— domed church which did not suffer any cracks, despite the fact that it has lived through many great earthquakes.

Old and New Kameni. Here you will come across the newer volcanic rocks in Greece. The color of the sea between Old and New Kameni is bright green, but as we get closer to the rocks, it changes to a rare color that is something between yellow, orange and brown. At Aghios Nikolaos, in Old Kameni, you can visit the curative mineral springs. Beaches.

Santorini has beaches with black volcanic pebbles, red sands and waters with abyssal depths. Perivolos, the most cosmopolitan beach on the island. Vlychada, with its lunar landscape, with white rocks that have been chiseled by the winds for many centuries. Kokkini Paralia (“red beach”) in Akrotiri, with its lava-colored sand.

The underwater world is equally impressive, however: Volcanic rocks, large schools of fish, sponges, sea turtles, and also scattered copies of archaeological artifacts make the island’s underwater landscape even more special.

Local Theran products. Be sure to try the unique and well-known local products of Santorini. White eggplant, cherry tomatoes, fava, caper, and chloro cheese; all are delicious, and used in the creation of local dishes that the gourmands will surely appreciate. Wineries. There is a plethora of wineries on the island that you can visit, where you can sample delicious wines.
