Sikinos is an ideal destination for those who want to have a peaceful and relaxing vacation. It's a small Cycladic island between Ios and Folegandos. It's a mountainous barren island, oblong in shape, with its longest road not exceeding the eight kilometers.
Chora, its capital, is situated on the edge of a steep rock, offering
a fascinating view to its visitors. It's the result of the merging of two equally picturesque settlements: Kastro and Chorio. Most of the shops are in Kastro, where you can visit the church of Episkopi, the Sikinos Folk Art Museum, housed in an old olive oil press, the monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, and the church of Panagia (Virgin Mary) Pantanassa, with its blue dome and the rare gilded altarpiece.
Alopronia, the port of the island is on the southeast coast and, same as Chora, it has hotels and rooms to let, offering a comfortable stay to the visitors; it also has bars and taverns.
Sikinos has not many beaches, but the hospitality of the locals, the picturesque Chora with the wonderful view, and the traditional flavors will recompense you. The local products, honey and especially the wine and the honey are exquisite. It's not accidental that the ancient name on the island was Inoi (Wine maker)
Beaches having an easy access to, are Alopronia, Aghios Georgios and Dialiskari. To the rest of them, you go either walking on rather rugged paths or taking a boat from Alopronia.
