Sifnos is one of the southwest Cyclades islands close to Paros, Kimolos and Serifos. Ιt's a mountainous island with four parallel sierras crossing its area. It has a large diversity of tourist accommodation and many entertainment places like cafés, bars and wonderful taverns with local delicacies, as Sifnos is renowned for its gastronomic art, being the birthplace of the legendary chef Nicholaos Tselementes, the so-called "kitchen wizard".
Its capital is Apollonia, and it derives its name from the Olympian God Apollo. Situated in the center of the island, it's the crossroad for all destinations of Sifnos. A stroll in the narrow paved Cycladic streets with colorful houses and shops always impresses all visitors.
Kamares is the largest seaside village and port of Sifnos, with traditional taverns, grocery stores, rooms to let, a private camping site, cafés, bars and clubs.
Sifnos is an ideal island for sea sports as windsurfing, kite surfing, diving and sailing, for yachting cruises, and of course for swimming in the beautiful beaches with the crystal-clear waters.
The most popular beaches are Chryssopigi, having taken its name from the monastery of Panagia Chrysopigi, who is the matron saint of the island, Platys Yalos, one the longest beaches in the Cyclades, and Fykiada, the beach on the northern coast, near Cheronissos, where a part of land kissed by the sea is linked with the land only by one side.
