Andros

Andros is the second largest island of the Cyclades, and an ideal destination to escape everyday routine, even just for the week-end, as it is situated only 2 hours away from Athens.

Noble, cosmopolitan, with a long maritime tradition, it is a combination of Cycladic landscape, lush vegetation and plentiful water. It is famous for its numerous springs, the most well-known being the mineral spring of Sariza in the village of Apikia.

The aristocratic Chora lies 30km from Gavrio, the port of Andros. You will be impressed by the beautiful cobbled narrow streets and unique mansions, reminiscent of the island’s ship-owner past and present. On the lower edge of Chora lies the landmark Square of the Unknown Sailor, in honour of all the sailors who lost their lives at sea. The Museum of Contemporary Art is worth visiting, and you can enjoy a cup of coffee under the plane tree on Kairi Square, the most central spot of Chora.

Explore the paths of Andros, a huge network of old footpaths that run through the island. You can get hold of the relevant brochure issued by the Municipality and embark on your journey of adventure, in a backdrop of deep Aegean blue.

The only problem in Andros is not knowing which beach to choose. The golden waters of Achla or the unique landscape of Grias to Pidima? If you are a fan of beach bars, go to Agios Petros or Batsi, the most popular tourist resort with a buoyant nightlife. If you prefer long routes or secluded beaches, choose Zorkos or Vori.
